Syracuse, NY – New York State has agreed to pay $5.5 million to Syracuse resident Anthony Broadwater for his wrongful conviction in the 1981 rape of Alice Sebold, who later turned her account of the attack into the best-selling memoir “Lucky.”
Broadwater, now 62, spent 16 ½ years in state prison and more than two decades longer on the sex offender registry for a conviction based on a botched police lineup as well as since-debunked science.
He was a young Black man who returned to Syracuse from the military to care for his dying father when he was arrested based on accusations by Sebold, a white college student at Syracuse University.
No man would ever charge a woman wrongly for sex attack, Never. Am I wrong? If there is such a case please let me know of it.
Not only did Sebold base her book “Lucky” on memoirs of her rape, she wrote another book “Lovely Bones” which was turned into a Hollywood motion picture. Again, she based the movie on memories from her rape. So after this woman cashed in her book deals and Hollywood movie, she has yet reached out to Anthony Broadwater. But I hope she’s praying every night asking for forgiveness for the damage & destruction she inflicted on the man. If she refuses to reach out, she should at least donate some of her Hollywood proceeds to the Innocence Project–their operation costs are not free. So there’s things Sebold can do. Just do something lady! Yes, the state of New York bears a lot of responsibility for railroading this man, but you (Sebold) should be thinking about your mistakes, and how you got manipulated by the victim rights industry. How you made money on this poor man’s misfortune that you partly caused. Woman, I think you have a lot of penance to pay

By word alone they wronged a non-white person. The scales of justice are racist and it’s in California as well. Brown or black have no chance when it’s just word alone.
Should be 200 times the 5.5 million , try sweeping that under the rug !
